Why did you choose your particular speciality?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I always wanted to work in a speciality that required in-depth medical knowledge but also included practical procedures and surgery. Dermatology for me is the most diverse speciality. There are over 1000 diagnoses and every day there is a challenge, which keeps me on my toes.<\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about your job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am lucky to be able to see the majority of my patients through their treatment journey, from the first consultation to performing diagnostic procedures, treatment and follow up. This allows for continuity of care, which is highly satisfying for both myself and my patients.\u00a0 I also deal with a diverse group of patients, both sexes and all age groups.<\/p>\n

What one thing do you wish every member of the public knew?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The harmful effects of excessive UV exposure and in particular sunbeds. I see many patients who have been affected by melanoma and other skin cancers. Although we have come a long way as a nation in adopting a culture of protecting our skin against the sun, I still see people who use sunbeds regularly or look red and sunburned on the beach.<\/p>\n

What three traits define you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Loyalty, perfectionism, and a passion for my work<\/p>\n

Who is your inspiration?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My patients, and my nephews. Patients for encouraging me to be the best I can be in my field, and my nephews for teaching me resilience in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n

What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finishing my research doctorate degree while also working as a full-time consultant.<\/p>\n

Also, being interviewed by Reuters Health for publishing the first epidemiological study article on the association of bullous pemphigoid and neurological disease<\/p>\n

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have always been curious about the work of Police Patrol Officers. It is fascinating how they think on their feet to respond to the emergency.<\/p>\n

What advances in medicine are you most excited about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rise of targeted, biological agents for the treatment of psoriasis has transformed the lives of many of my patients. There are many other up-and-coming biological agents for various chronic skin conditions, but we have come the longest way in the treatment of psoriasis.<\/p>\n

What (health) app would you most recommend?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dermatology A-Z is an app developed by the American Academy of Dermatologists for the public. It contains reliable, evidence-based and dermatologist-approved information about various skin, hair and nail conditions. It is user-friendly, non-commercial, and even has a UV index calculator based on real-time location.<\/p>\n
