Why did you choose your particular specialty?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI was inspired to follow a\ncareer in shoulder and elbow surgery by my first consultant trainer during my\nregistrar training and have never lost that passion. I enjoy the variety of\npatients that present with shoulder and elbow problems, as they range from\nyoung patients with their sports injuries to the elderly with their more\ndegenerative problems.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you enjoy most about your job?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI like taking the time to\nget to know each of my patients as an individual to work out what it is that\nmakes them tick; I believe in making individually-tailored plans for all of my\npatients as no two patients are the same.  It is very rewarding\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What one thing do you wish every member of the public knew?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many shoulder and\nelbow problems, surgery is not the answer, but rehab-based treatment is very\nhard work and requires considerable effort on the part of the patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What three traits define you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHonest, hardworking and\nmethodical.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is your inspiration?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife and children\ninspire me to do the best I can every day. I am blessed and privileged to have\nbeen trained by a number of inspirational surgical mentors and I aspire to\nemulate them in my professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a clich\u00e9 but it\u2019s\ntrue, my children are my greatest accomplishment and my pride and joy. In terms\nof my work, saving a young man from a lifetime of paralysis as a trainee by\nreducing his dislocated neck promptly is hard to beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had always wanted to\nperform as a juggler in a circus, as the level of dedication required to\nachieve a high level of performance is very similar to that required to become\na surgeon and, like surgery, it requires the ability to perform under pressure\nwith no CGI to hide behind!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What advances in medicine are you most excited about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am very excited by the mi-eye device that allows for office-based arthroscopic work, which I have been using for the last year and has changed my practice massively. I am also very excited about cellular regeneration techniques to delay the need for joint replacements where possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What (health) app would you most recommend?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MyFitnessPal is an\nexcellent app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What charities do you admire\/support?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI am very supportive of the\n\u2018Families need fathers\u2019 charity. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
