Mr Ian Comaish is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist who trained in pre-clinical medicine at Cambridge University and completed his medical degree at Oxford University in 1991. He began his ophthalmic training in 1994 at The Royal United Hospital in Bath before completing his NHS training posts at St Thomas’s Hospital in London, during his training he worked on the prestigious Medical Eye Unit, the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth and the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Before being appointed his consultant role in Hastings in 2004 he completed further sub-specialty fellowships in corneal and refractive surgery in Sydney in 2001, and in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery in Nottingham in 2003.

In 2006 Mr Comaish accepted a post in South Island, New Zealand as a consultant ophthalmologist in both public and private settings. He then spent two years in Brisbane, Australia in a private practice before returning to the UK in order to educate his children here. . He has contributed numerous articles to the scientific literature in his field.

He also holds a degree in the History of Art from Cambridge University, and a diploma in Yacht Design from The Landing School in Maine, USA. He is interested in the history and language of the Isle of Man, where his family originated.
