After qualifying at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, I undertook my two-year internship at the university hospital before relocating to Dublin to commence my surgical training under the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and then went on to work in the major Orthopaedic centres in Galway University and Navan.
I continued my professional development and moved my surgical career to the UK in1980 where I took positions in Orthopaedic surgery in Cheltenham Hospital, Black Notley Orthopaedic Centre, The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, and Southend university Hospital in Essex.
I joined the Ministry of Defence as an appointed Consultant Orthoapedic and Trauma Surgeon based in Germany and at the Queen Elizabeth Military hospital in Woolwich for five years, where I served during the Bosnian conflict and where I gained expertise in the management of major and severe trauma.
Thereafter, I held the positions of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Southend University Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital until I joined Newham University Hospital in 1996, where I currently, still hold the position of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
I have been involved in all aspects of training, teaching and mentoring of medical students through to senior registrars in the Teaching Hospitals in which I work, and have been active in maintaining relationships with them well into their own consultant careers. I run local and regional training courses for the AO . I have an interest and role in the management of young adult hip surgery, replacements for patients with sickle cell disease, avascular necrosis and other pathology that can affect this patient demographic.
I am fortunate to have a continued passion for my role and my longevity of service in my current area is reflected in the high referral rates I still receive for trauma cases, total hip replacements, total knee replacements, revision surgery and hand and foot surgery.
I am a strong believer in continued professional and personal development and strive to remain up to date with advances in fields of Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma by attending seminars and courses.
In addition to my clinical and teaching interests, I have been performing medico-legal assessments and undertaking reports for injuries resulting from accidents or over 30 years now.
Revision surgery (orthopaedic); Lower limb trauma; Joint replacements hip and knee; Knee surgery
