    Frequently asked questions

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

I'm a plastic surgeon. There are different core groups of patients that I see. They are hand surgery, general plastic surgery and skin conditions.

In hand surgery, they commonly come see me with hand pain, arthritis, tingling in the fingers, trigger fingers and Dupuytren's disease which is an inability to straighten the finger. These are common hand conditions.

In skin, they tend to have rashes, skin cancers or moles that are changing and lumps and bumps such as lipomas.

In general plastic surgery, it can be trauma or it can be cosmetic. Things like aesthetic injections, fillers, cosmetic surgery, liposuction.

In lower limb trauma, injuries to the lower leg. For example, big cuts, lacerations or broken legs with open wounds which I look after with orthopaedics.

These are my main groups of patients.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

I do all range of hand surgeries, like carpal tunnel, decompression, trigger finger release, Dupuytren's surgery, surgery for arthritis, among others. I also do finger injections and hand injections for painful conditions. I also treat fractures of the hand.

I offer full range of surgical excision of skin lesions, like moles, skin cancers and then reconstruction with skin grafts or local flaps. In cosmetic surgery, we offer aesthetic injections and fillers as required and also liposuction or other such procedures as necessary.

In lower limb, we do repair of traumatic conditions. We do skin grafts. In certain patients, they need dressing changes or more complex reconstruction.

I do a lot of trauma, particularly of the hand, which means a lot of hand fractures that need either surgery or splinting. I see a lot of those patients.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

I'm famous nationally and internationally for hand surgery and lower limb trauma. My research was on enhanced surgery for rheumatoid arthritis. I now lead quite a large group in conditions of the hand. My research interest is clinical hand surgery conditions and also paediatric hands like congenital hand surgery. These are things that I do very well and I'm well known for.

For lower limb reconstruction, I do it in cooperation with orthopaedic surgeons and my colleagues in my NHS practice because these injuries are complex and big and they can't be looked after by a single doctor. I lead part of that team, looking after these doctors. We've got a lot of patients coming from abroad, seeking our expertise to try and solve problems that they may have had because these injuries are complex and difficult.
