Dr Gordon T. Plant, MD, FRCP, FRCOphth, is a specialist in treating neurological disorders affecting vision. He serves as a Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Dr Plant received his training in Neurology and Ophthalmology at The National Hospital and The Moorfields Eye Hospital. He is also a Fellow of the colleges of both Physicians and Ophthalmologists. He remains active in the field of research, and is celebrated for emphasising the eye?s status as an extension of the brain. He encourages ophthalmologists who are currently studying diseases such as glaucoma to collaborate with neurologists about recent advances in their field and vice versa. In addition, he stresses the need for more neuro-ophthalmologists who are knowledgeable in both disciplines.
In addition to the effects of occipital damage, Dr Plant also studies familial amyloidoses, rare types of Alzheimer?s disease that affect vision, optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis, all in the context of neuro-degenerative processes.
