Dr Hugh Bethell has been practising as a consultant cardiologist at Northwick Park Hospital for the last 20 years. He is the Lead in cardiac pacemakers, heart failure and cardiology undergraduate teaching. He is also the primary investigator in cardiac research trials run at Northwick Park Hospital. His areas of interest include ischaemic heart disease, coronary angiography, arrhythmias, implantation of cardiac devices (pacemakers and defibrillators), hypertension and heart failure.
After graduating from the University of Cambridge in 1987, Dr Bethell completed his training in cardiology at Papworth Hospital. His research in the mechanisms of arrhythmias in ischaemia led to him being awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1996. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). He is an honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and an honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
