Dr Banks is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of Endoscopy at University College London Hospital NHS Trust, where he is also Honorary Senior Lecturer.
In addition to general gastroenterology & hepatology, his special interests include Gastrointestinal Cancers, Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease, Barrett’s Oesophagus and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Having a PhD on the mechanisms of diarrhoea he has particular expertise in the investigation and management of this condition. He is accomplished in interventional endoscopic techniques and is one of a few National Endoscopy trainers with exemplary performance standards, particularly in colonoscopy. A sabbatical in Tokyo’s National Cancer Centre enabled him to refine his endoscopic techniques. Procedures he undertakes include colonoscopy, gastroscopy, therapeutic endoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Laser Therapy, and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection. (EMR/ESD).
