    Mr Ramy Bassily is the consultant lead in cornea and anterior segment surgery at Ipswich hospital. In his NHS practice, he deals with a wide range of corneal disease such as dry eyes, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies and trauma. He, with his staff, offers a comprehensive corneal service including all modern corneal transplant surgery techniques. He is especially skilled in modern small incision cataract surgery, surgical and medical management of corneal disease and surgical and medical management of glaucoma. It is also his responsibility to co-lead the cataract service within the NHS with over 3,000 operations performed per year.

    Mr Bassily graduated from Southampton Medical School and went into ophthalmic specialty training in the East of England. He gained the necessary experience from his intensive training in the region. This includes spending two years in two university hospitals and centres of excellence. One year was spent in sub specialty training in Cambridge University Hospital where he was involved in ongoing research into modern corneal transplant surgery development.

    Mr Bassily’s passion in ophthalmology goes beyond the clinical aspects and he is a keen educator. As an educational supervisor, he regularly teaches on courses for exam preparation and is heavily involved in the surgical training of future ophthalmologists.
