Why did you choose your particular specialty?
As a trainee SHO in Surgical training, I assisted a Consultant performing knee and hip replacements and was inspired to go into this specialty by the technical expertise demonstrated and the seemingly immediate improvement in quality of life reported by patients following surgery!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Seeing how much better patients are after deciding with them how best to treat their underlying hip and knee complaints, often without surgery. When surgery is required, I enjoy caring for the patients and seeing the difference it makes in their lives.
What one thing do you wish every member of the public knew?
How important non-impact exercise is, such as the use of an exercise bike, on a regular basis!
What three traits define you?
Driven, Resilient, Caring.
Who is your inspiration?
My little boy, who is 10 this year, and my wife.
What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?
Becoming an Orthopaedic Surgeon against the odds.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Be Prime Minister!
What advances in medicine are you most excited about?
Stem cell treatment for early hip and knee arthritis.
What (health) app would you most recommend?
Would recommend Calico (global), which tracks cycles, runs and walks (or similar apps!)
