Dr Robin Roberts is a private Consultant Cardiologist . He has more than 20 years of experince in managing patients with cardiac diease and complex medical problems. He is the lead cardiologist for The Private Cardiac Clinic at Alexander House Wimbledon and consults in Wimbledon, Harley Street and Surrey.
Dr Roberts has an interest in all aspects of adult cardiology including diagnostic coronary angiography, cardiac pacing and the non-invasive assessment of heart disease using MRI and CT imaging. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of microvascular angina. His areas of special interest include the management of intractable angina, cardiac disease in women and the influence of psychological health in relation to cardiac disease and its prevention.
Dr Roberts qualified at Westminster Medical School 1982 and obtained a broad training in general medicine before specialising in cardiology. He trained in cardiology at Guys Hospital, the London Chest Hospital and the National Heart and Lung Institute where he was a British Heart Foundation research fellow. Dr Roberts was appointed as a consultant in 1997 to a joint post between Queen Marys Hospital Roehampton and The Royal Brompton. From 1999 he also had inpatient beds at Kingston Hospital.
He was elected as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2005 and is a member of the British cardiac society.
Dr Roberts is committed to the rapid diagnosis and treatment of cardiac symptoms and disease. As part of Professor David Woods team at the National Heart and Lung Institute in the early 1990s helped develop the model for rapid access chest pain clinics which are now standard throughout the NHS.
Dr Roberts leads the only unit providingenhanced counterpulsation therapy ECP® in London and the South East of England. This treatment has been well established in the USA since 1995 and has available in Wimbledon since 2005.
Dr Roberts treats both NHS and private patients with ECP at Alexander House Wimbledon. This treatment is particularly useful for patients with microvascular angina or patients whose quality of life is impaired by intractable angina despite maximum interventional and drug therapy. Each patient has to undergo an individualised assessment programme before deciding whether or not they are suitable for treatment.
Dr Roberts treats each person as an individual taking into account both biological and psychosocial factors when determining a treatment programme.
