Listed as one of Britain's top 250 Consultants in the Tatler Doctors Guide 2013, Dr Anthony Jenkins is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and an accomplished endoscopist with extensive experience in gastroscopy, colonoscopy and the non-invasive technique of wireless capsule endoscopy. He has previously led the Clinical Nutrition Team at the Princess Royal University Hospital and maintains his interest in nutrition. His other main interests centre on investigation and treatment of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion and inflammatory bowel disease. He also has extensive experience in wireless capsule endoscopy, which allows non-invasive visualisation of the intestine via a miniature camera enclosed within a capsule that is swallowed by the patient.
Dr Jenkins trained at the University of Cambridge (MA and MB, BChir in 1983) and St Thomas’ Hospital. He was awarded an MD by the University of Cambridge in 1992. He was a research fellow and senior registrar at St Thomas’. His thesis examined the effects of diet on the intestine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the British Medical Association, the British Society of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association and the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Dr Jenkins conducts his private practice at Chelsfield Park Hospital and The Sloane Hospital.
