    Mr David Murray graduated from St Andrew’s University and The University of Manchester in 1992 and 1995. He rotated through surgical training in the Northwest Region before entering research in vascular biology at the University of Manchester. He underwent higher vascular surgical training at Manchester Royal Infirmary, following which he was appointed Vascular and Endovascular Fellow at the John Hunter Hospital in Australia, gaining advanced experience in endovascular surgery and vascular trauma.

    He held the first appointment of a clinical research fellow to the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering. This post was jointly funded by the MRC, BBSRC and ESPRC and comprised three research arms aiming to develop living tissue substitutes for bone/cartilage, skin and arterial conduits.

    Mr Murray’s MD Thesis entitled “Tissue Engineering : Modulating vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype and extracellular matrix” was submitted 2009 with MD. The Thesis investigated tissue engineering of an autologous blood vessels, with particular reference to genetic and molecular approaches to augment ex-vivo graft development using cloned growth factors and adenoviral transfection strategies. He currently maintains a research interest in peripheral arterial disease, angioplasty and stenting and EVAR for abdominal aortic aneurysm.
