    Mr Nicholas Marshall has developed expert laparoscopy skills within the fields of upper GI surgery and general surgery to be able to offer a comprehensive treatment profile for almost all abdominal conditions. His clinical interests include advanced laparoscopic surgery, including cholecystectomy, hernia surgery and the treatment of hiatus hernia, treatment of obesity and bariatric/obesity treatments obesity related complications (e.g. diabetes) by surgery, scarless laparoscopic surgery, gallstones and general surgery.     After completing his Bsc (1987) and MBBS (1990) from the University of London, Mr Marshall went on to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons(England) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons(Edinburgh) in 1994. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Gen Surg) in 2004.

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

    The most common patients I see are patients with indigestion, abdominal pain coupled with either indigestion or with gallstone-type pain, patients who have had a change in their bowel habits, patients who have difficulty or pain when they swallow or eat and I also see patients who have been diagnosed previously with gastrointestinal disorders, like bleeding rectally, patients who have had pain on defecation, people who have had a change in their bowel habit.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

    I perform upper and lower gastrointestinal examinations and endoscopies. I perform laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernias, for abdominal wall hernias and inguinal and groin hernias. I also offer surgery to patients who have hernias and require open surgery. I perform skin lesion surgery for patients with benign skin lesions and a proctological practice involving patients with fissures, fistulae and haemorrhoids.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

    I'm a fully qualified and trained upper GI surgeon. My training in the North Thames training scheme involved six years of training in benign and cancer surgery for disorders of the upper GI tract. I was appointed a consultant surgeon in 2004 and have subsequently devoted my practice to benign upper GI surgery and laparoscopic surgery. I have an active training program and train surgeons both at the Royal College of Surgeons and at the London School of Surgery. I'm an accredited trainer for colonoscopy and recognised by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastroenterology.
