    Frequently asked questions

  • Why do you do what you do?

What fascinates me about gastroenterology is the management of chronic diseases to help people achieve the best quality of life they can. I've got a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, and it's helping people through life events that gives me immense satisfaction.

I love the procedural aspect of gastroenterology. Performing endoscopy is challenging but stimulating.

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

The most common symptoms people would present with are abdominal pain, a change in bowel habit, be it diarrhoea or constipation. Other common symptoms would be bloating, as well as symptoms consistent with acid reflux as well.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

I have completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy. I perform diagnostic upper GI endoscopy (gastroscopy) and lower GI colonoscopy. I can remove polyps, which are commonly found when you perform a colonoscopy. I have extensive experience of prescribing biologic drugs for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. I prefer to use a holistic approach to treat irritable bowel syndrome.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

My area of specialist interest is inflammatory bowel disease. I have a tertiary referral clinic at St. Mark's Hospital where I see complex cases referred from other hospitals around the country.
