Professor Toby Richards is a consultant vascular surgeon and academic clinician based in London. He practises privately within HCA Healthcare UK while also holding a senior academic appointment as a professor of vascular surgery. His work combines complex clinical care with research and leadership in vascular disease and peri-operative medicine.

His clinical specialism covers the assessment and management of arterial and venous disease, including peripheral arterial disease, aortic conditions, carotid artery disease and venous disorders such as varicose veins. He has extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive endovascular procedures, with a focus on evidence-based treatment and careful patient selection. His procedural practice includes vascular imaging assessment, endovascular interventions, arterial reconstruction and the management of chronic limb-threatening ischaemia.

Alongside his surgical work, Professor Richards has a strong interest in peri-operative optimisation and blood management, particularly the diagnosis and treatment of anaemia in surgical patients. He has played a leading role in advancing patient blood management strategies, aiming to improve surgical outcomes, reduce complications and support faster recovery. This interest underpins much of his clinical and academic activity.

In his academic role, he is actively involved in research, teaching and service development at a national and international level. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to clinical guidelines and led major research programmes focused on vascular disease and peri-operative care. Through his combined clinical and academic practice, Professor Richards is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred vascular care informed by the latest research and innovation.
