    Frequently asked questions

  • What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?

As a specialist in heart rhythm disorders, in particular atrial fibrillation, most people present to me with symptoms of palpitations. Palpitations are a sensation of an unexpected change in heart rhythm or heart rate. Other common symptoms include, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, breathlessness or a reduced exercise capacity.

These varied symptoms may suggest a broad spectrum of diagnoses, from important heart rhythm disturbances requiring specific treatment, to simple dehydration requiring a change in lifestyle. Accurate and early diagnosis and tailoring individualised care for my patients is at the core of my practice.

  • What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?

My clinical and procedural expertise is the treatment of atrial fibrillation and complex atrial arrhythmias with ablation and also ablate simple arrhythmias under local anaesthetic. I implant cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, resynchronisation devices also known as biventricular pacemakers.

I have additional specialist expertise is in vasovagal syncope (common fainting), a benign but often troublesome condition affecting all age groups but in particular young, healthy individuals.

  • What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?

Cardiac electrophysiology is my subspecialty. My focus in cardiac electrophysiology is ablation of complex atrial arrhythmias, specifically atrial fibrillation. My other broad subspecialty interest is in syncope and other autonomic cardiac syndromes.
