About Mr Ahmed Karim

Mr Karim is a highly skilled consultant surgeon specialising in the management of colorectal cancer through laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also expertly handles conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, colonic diverticular disease, pilonidal disease, haemorrhoids, anorectal sepsis, and lower gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. As a general surgeon, he is proficient in managing emergency surgical conditions and major trauma affecting the abdomen.
Mr Karim was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at St George’s Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London in 2018. He conducts clinics in colorectal and general surgery, oversees inpatient and day surgery theatre lists, and manages a lower GI endoscopy list.
In addition to his role at St George’s Hospital, Mr Karim established the robotic colorectal surgery program at the Lister Hospital and also practices at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre.
Mr Karim's academic journey began with a background in chemical engineering from University College London (UCL) in 2000. He later qualified from UCL Medical School in 2007. He completed his core and specialist training in North London and the West Midlands rotation, respectively, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) England in 2017. He further honed his expertise by completing a fellowship in advanced rectal cancer and robotic surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, in 2018.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Karim holds a Master’s degree in medical education and is deeply involved in teaching and training. He serves as an educational and clinical supervisor to junior doctors and specialist trainees. He also plays an active role at St George’s Medical School as the T year lead for surgery and as an examiner.
