Mr Alagappan Sivaraman is a highly esteemed consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in spinal surgery. He is currently practising at The Princess Grace Hospital in London. Mr Sivaraman graduated in medicine from Madurai-Kamaraj University in 1993 and has since developed a robust career in orthopaedics, with a particular focus on spinal pathologies.
Mr Sivaraman's areas of expertise include spinal deformities, inflammatory spinal conditions, degenerative disorders of the neck and lower back, spinal tumours, and infections such as spinal tuberculosis. He has been actively involved in the Spinal Tuberculosis Unit at The Royal London Hospital, one of the few units in the UK with a high volume of such cases.
In his practice, Mr Sivaraman advocates for non-surgical options and pain management plans, believing that conservative treatment should be considered before surgery. He performs over 500 surgical procedures and spinal injections annually, demonstrating his extensive experience and commitment to patient care.
Mr Sivaraman has completed several fellowships overseas, enhancing his knowledge and skills. His higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics was completed through the prestigious Percival Pott training programme at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospital. He also completed spinal fellowship training at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Sivaraman is dedicated to medical education, training medical students and orthopaedic specialist trainees at St Bartholomew's Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. He also shares his expertise through GP and physical therapist lectures.
Mr Sivaraman is actively involved in research, having published and presented papers on spinal surgery at international conferences. He is also the author of a spinal chapter in a medical textbook. His professional memberships include the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the Indian Spine Society.
