    Alasdair Mace graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London, UK in 1996. Basic surgical training included posts in Neurosurgery at Queen Square and Plastic Surgery at Great Ormond Street and Mt Vernon Hospitals. He then returned to St Mary’s as a SHO in ENT.

    The following 6 years of higher ENT training on the North Thames Rotation was predominantly based in London teaching hospitals including St Bartholomew's and The Royal Free Hospitals. During this time he trained in internationally respected centres of excellence for Head and Neck surgery. He has acquired particular expertise in surgery for mouth and throat cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgery and adult airway reconstruction. In addition he also had excellent general training, particularly in rhinology and paediatric ENT.

    After UK training, Alasdair completed a Fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, USA practising Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery. This time was spent enhancing his surgical skills, completing research and teaching Harvard medical students. On his return to the UK he was appointed as the Royal College of Surgeons Post-CCT Fellow in Laryngology. This fellowship at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital involved developing advanced skills in managing voice, airway and swallowing disorders. He also set up the National Laryngology Research Network.

    Alasdair was appointed as Consultant ENT Head and Neck Surgeon at Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals in March 2009. These London teaching hospitals have recently combined to form the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre - Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His appointment at this major London Cancer Centre involves the management of head and neck cancer, along with benign diseases and thyroid surgery. He is also a member of the surgical team in the National Centre for Airway Reconstruction.

    He has strong academic credentials and has published a large number of articles in journals and a book chapter. He has presented at national and international meetings and has been appointed an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College.
