Mr Alastair Dick is a dual fellowship-trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in all aspects of hip surgery. He joined the London Hip Unit in January 2024. Mr Dick has specific interests and expertise in high-performance hip replacement surgery and hip preservation surgery. He is particularly skilled in minimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy, hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement, and complex arthroplasty in younger patients.

Mr Dick graduated from Imperial College London with an intercalated BSc in surgery and anaesthesia. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training on the South-East Thames rotation, where he gained comprehensive experience in lower limb surgery, including major trauma centre experience in managing pelvic trauma. He was awarded his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2017. To further enhance his skills, he undertook sub-specialist fellowships in hip arthroplasty in Bournemouth and hip preservation surgery at Guy’s Hospital in London. In 2019, he was awarded the Zimmer Biomet BOTA Travelling Fellowship to gain further experience at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Mr Dick holds two higher degrees: an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics and an MA in Clinical Education. He is an honorary Associate Professor at University College London. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society, and ISHA – The Hip Preservation Society. He regularly reviews for prestigious journals, including the British Medical Journal, The Bone and Joint Journal, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

His NHS practice is based at University College London Hospital, one of the busiest hip preservation units in the country. He is the Trust lead for hip trauma, implementing data-driven optimisation in care for those with a fractured hip.
