Dr Alex Digesu is a highly esteemed Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Urogynaecology Subspecialist based at St Mary's Hospital in London. He also holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London. With over 15 years of experience, Dr Digesu has dedicated his career to caring for pregnant women and managing both complicated and uncomplicated pregnancies.
Dr Digesu obtained his medical degree in 1997 from the University of Bari, Italy, where he also completed his specialist training in obstetrics, gynaecology, and reproductive medicine in 2002. He further advanced his expertise by earning a PhD in oncological, gynaecological, and geriatric surgery in 2005. Dr Digesu then moved to the UK, where he undertook a five-year fellowship in urogynaecology at King’s College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, London. Additionally, he completed two years of subspecialty training in urogynaecology and reconstructive pelvic floor surgery at Imperial College London.
Throughout his career, Dr Digesu has served as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in various university teaching hospitals and district general hospitals across Italy, Switzerland, and the UK. His key areas of expertise include urogynaecology, reconstructive vaginal and pelvic floor surgery, vaginal/perineal trauma following childbirth, female urinary incontinence, uterovaginal prolapse, gynaecological surgery, female urology, chronic pelvic pain, bladder pain syndrome, interstitial cystitis, recurrent urinary tract infections, neurourology, and neuromodulation.
Dr Digesu is a prolific author, having published over 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His extensive research and expertise are frequently sought after at both national and international conferences, where he is often invited to speak.
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Digesu enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children.
