Mr Amer Khan is a highly esteemed consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports knee, shoulder, and hip injuries. He has been serving at the Homerton University Hospital since 2010, where he holds the roles of clinical lead for the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics and Joint Clinical Lead for Sports & Exercise Medicine.
Mr Khan's medical journey began at Kings College London, where he earned a 1st class honours in Physiology and Exercise Medicine before qualifying in 1994. He completed his higher surgical training in orthopaedics in South West England and further honed his skills with subspecialist fellowship training in shoulder surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and knee surgery at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital.
His expertise extends to ACL reconstruction, meniscal and cartilage preservation, and all ligament surgeries, including revision. He is also proficient in arthroscopic procedures for the shoulder and hip, as well as knee and shoulder joint replacement surgeries. Mr Khan is particularly skilled in avoiding surgery where appropriate, working within a multidisciplinary team to provide the best care.
Mr Khan's career highlights include being a selected member of the knee team for the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he provided acute care to injured athletes. He continues to treat professional and semi-professional athletes from various disciplines, ensuring their return to elite professional sport.
Committed to research and medical education, Mr Khan regularly teaches courses on shoulder and knee surgery, including soft tissue sports injury, both nationally and internationally. He is actively involved in teaching Orthopaedic and Sports & Exercise Medicine Trainees, contributing significantly to the field.
