About Mr Amit Kawarlal Kotecha

GMC number: 6028707

Year qualified: 2001

Place of primary qualification: Nagpur University

Dr Amit?Kotecha is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, practising at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, in Birmingham. He was appointed in 2001 as a full time NHS consultant at the University Hospitals of Birmingham and later joined HCA for private practice.

He treats adult hip and knee conditions such as osteoarthritis, hip fractures, hip and groin pain, and knee pain. His procedures include primary and revision hip and knee replacements, robotic arm assisted hip and knee replacements, complex arthroplasty, custom made knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, hip arthroscopy, and steroid injections.

Dr?Kotecha is recognised for innovative techniques in hip replacement surgery, especially the posterior approach that preserves hip abductor muscles for faster recovery and improved outcomes. He uses enhanced recovery protocols and leads in robotic assisted joint replacements for greater precision, reduced pain, and quicker rehabilitation.

He earned his MB?BS and MRCS at University Hospital Lewisham, then completed specialist orthopaedic training in the West Midlands, gaining his FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) and CCST. He also undertook an advanced arthroplasty fellowship at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr?Kotecha is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Leicester, contributing to medical teaching and research. He has presented at national and international conferences and published extensively in peer reviewed journals.

His interests include advancing minimally invasive hip and knee surgery, optimising recovery pathways, and integrating robotic technology into orthopaedic practice.
