About Mr Anil Tailor
GMC number: 3548011
Year qualified: 1991
Place of primary qualification: University of London
Mr Tailor has been an NHS Consultant Gynaecologist at Royal Surrey County Hospital (Guildford) and St Peters Hospital (Chertsey) since September 2003. He carries out clinics and operations at both hospitals. As a sub-specialist in gynaecological oncology, his function is to see, investigate and treat patients referred by their GP with a suspicion of cancer.
Mr Tailor tries to see these patients in a setting where he carries out a pelvic ultrasound scan on them as part of the same examination at the same visit. This facilitates a faster patient pathway and fewer visits to the hospital.
He has been carrying out pelvic ultrasound scans since 1994 and has conducted research looking at ovarian cysts on scan and trying to predict whether a cyst is likely to be sinister or not. Mr Tailor has published articles on this subject and spoken at international meetings.
As a cancer surgeon, he underwent intensive 3 year specialist training to carry out very complex surgery and the by-products of this have included an intimate knowledge of the anatomy, careful handling of the tissues, a calm approach to handling intra-operative complications, and an ability to steer the patient through a complicated post-operative phase!.
