  • About Mr Aniruddha Chakravarti

    GMC number: 4454359

    Year qualified: 1990

    Place of primary qualification: Calcutta

Mr Aniruddha Chakravarti is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust. He graduated from medical school in 1990 and subsequently pursued post-graduate training in general surgery before specialising in urology. Mr Chakravarti has a particular interest in robotic and laparoscopic surgery of the upper urinary tract, as well as surgical procedures for benign prostatic enlargement. His expertise includes all types of laser surgery and the UROLIFT procedure for stone disease.

Mr Chakravarti received rigorous laparoscopy training at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, France, where he earned a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery. Since his appointment, he has been actively involved in performing da Vinci Robot-assisted and pure laparoscopic surgeries, primarily for treating kidney cancers.

With over four years of experience in using various lasers for prostatic surgery, Mr Chakravarti is one of the few surgeons proficient in Holmium-YAG laser enucleation and morcellation of the prostate. He also performs the UROLIFT procedure in suitable cases. Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) is particularly notable for its ability to rapidly create a large cavity by immediately removing obstructing tissue. This method is suitable for large prostates of up to 100 grams and ensures relatively bloodless operations, reducing the need for transfusions and mitigating the risks of systemic fluid absorption.

The urolift procedure offers symptom relief while preserving sexual function and is often performed as a day case with no post-procedure catheterization required.

Mr Chakravarti is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to his patients, utilising advanced surgical techniques to ensure optimal outcomes.
