Mr Rohatgi is a highly trained general surgeon with a special interest in upper gastrointestinal benign and cancer surgery, biliary pathology, and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He received his specialist training at two major oesophagogastric cancer units in the South East of England.
Mr Rohatgi has been practising as a consultant for the past eight years, with his NHS work split between two sites. He is one of the six Oesophago-Gastric Surgeons at University College Hospital, a centre of excellence for cancer care. In this role, he is involved in resections and postoperative management of all types of oesophageal and gastric cancers. As a tertiary referral centre, the team is responsible for the acute management of all upper gastrointestinal emergencies in North and East London.
Currently, Mr Rohatgi is the only upper gastrointestinal surgeon at Whipps Cross Hospital, a large district general hospital in North East London. Here, he undertakes all forms of benign and complex upper gastrointestinal and biliary surgeries, primarily performed laparoscopically.
In addition to his expertise in upper gastrointestinal surgery, Mr Rohatgi is also a skilled laparoscopic and general surgeon, regularly managing general surgical emergencies. He has a keen interest in clinical research, with over 25 publications to his name and numerous presentations at both national and international levels.
Mr Rohatgi's areas of expertise include upper GI surgery, oesophageal cancer, gastric cancer, hiatus hernia repair, motility disorders of the oesophagus, reflux, gastroscopy, biliary disease, splenectomy (total or partial), laparoscopic cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, laparoscopic repair of abdominal wall hernias, emergency general surgery procedures, lumps and cysts excision, oesophagogastric cancer, oesophago-gastric surgery, laparoscopic surgery, abdominal wall hernias, reflux and hiatus hernia surgery, and splenic cysts.
Mr Rohatgi's dedication to his field and his extensive experience make him a leading specialist in upper gastrointestinal and general surgery.
