Dr Athanasios (Thanos) Diamantopoulos is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Clinical Lecturer (Hon) at King’s College London. He qualified in 2004 from the medical school of the University of Patras in Greece and holds a PhD in the experimental prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy.
Dr Diamantopoulos has extensive training in both general and interventional radiology, having completed a fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas' prior to his appointment as a consultant at the same hospital. He is board certified by the European Board of Interventional Radiologists (EBIR) and currently serves as the clinical lead for Interventional Radiology at Guy’s and St Thomas' Interventional Radiology Department.
An accomplished author, Dr Diamantopoulos has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and is regularly invited as a lecturer. He is also a primary investigator and co-investigator in multiple studies and has been awarded a Fellowship of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (FCIRSE) for his contributions to interventional radiology and cardiovascular imaging. Since 2019, he has served as an elected member of the research committee of CIRSE.
Dr Diamantopoulos specialises in minimally invasive, image-guided vascular, non-vascular, and interventional oncology procedures for both adults and children. He is known for performing cutting-edge procedures that encompass all aspects of basic and advanced interventional radiology. To ensure the best possible outcomes, he incorporates the latest technological advances into his treatment methods, including drug-eluting technologies, carbon dioxide angiography, the latest atherectomy techniques, and the newest ablation technologies.
