About Dr Aubrey Bristow
GMC number: 2449953
Year qualified: 1978
Place of primary qualification: Royal College of Surgeons of England
After qualifying at Guys Hospital Medical School, I trained in general surgery, medicine and accident and emergency in London before starting my anaesthetic training in Birmingham. I then returned to Kings College Hospital as a registrar and gained a senior registrar position at St Bartholomews Hospital London.
I was appointed to the faculty at Parkland Memorial Hospital Dallas as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, leading neurosurgery and head and neck surgery as well as being involved in the paramedic service.
I was one of the youngest UK consultants when appointed to the staff at Barts in 1985. I spent over a decade leading neurosurgery and continued my research, publishing on areas such as head injury and setting up Careflight, the UK’s inter hospital helicopter based transfer system.
From the start of the millennium I was lead anaesthetist for head and neck surgery specialising in the difficult airway, as I was elected by my peers as Chairman of Anaesthesia serving for seven years.
Sadly the deterioration in management severely restricted my ability to practice to the standard I wished and I left to become a full time private consultant in 2011. I now work in central London. This gives me the ability to travel to international conferences and visit my colleagues worldwide ensuring my anaesthesia reflects the latest research.
I am a founder and director of Phoenix Hospital Group which built and runs Weymouth Street Hospital, London’s newest hospital. PHG also build and runs 9 Harley Street, a diagnostic and imaging centre where I have my consulting rooms.
Living in the Harley Street area means I am always available for my patients, providing the 24 hour personal service I believe they deserve.
