    Mr Barry Hayden Maraj is Consultant Urological Surgeon and Clinical Lead at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust. He is the laparoscopic urological surgeon at the Whittington Hospital and visiting laparoscopic surgeon and mentor for the Caribbean Urology Association (CURA). He has research links with the University Hospital London in Nanotechnology and prostate cancer. He is a general urological surgeon with interests in endourology and minimally-invasive management of urologic disorders/cancer including laparoscopy and high energy modality treatment.

    Born in Trinidad, West-Indies, Mr Maraj qualified in medicine from Glasgow Medical School in 1987. He then trained in general surgery in Scotland while also gaining experience in vascular and plastic surgery. After completing his training, he left for Leeds to engage in a successful research training fellowship leading to the award of a PhD degree in the molecular biology of cancer.

    Mr Maraj’s main research interest is in the molecular biology of urologic cancers with an aim to develop markers for screening, prognosis and management. This complements his clinical and surgical interest in minimally-invasive techniques and therapies. He has research links with the Royal Free Hospital in nanotechnology and prostate cancer.
