Dr Basaam Aweid is a consultant physician specialising in geriatric medicine and stroke medicine, practising privately with HCA Healthcare UK. He has more than 18 years of clinical experience delivering specialist medical care to older adults and people affected by cerebrovascular conditions.

He completed his medical degree alongside a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in neuroscience at St George’s University of London, and went on to train in general internal medicine and geriatrics at leading NHS trusts including Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He subsequently undertook a stroke fellowship at Charing Cross Hospital, strengthening his expertise in stroke care.

Dr Aweid’s clinical practice focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and management of stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA), comprehensive geriatric assessment, and complex age-related medical conditions such as hypertension, syncope and headache. He emphasises a holistic approach, integrating medical management with rehabilitation and long-term care planning to support the needs of older patients.

He is the pioneer and current leader of the Stroke Early Supported Discharge service at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, helping patients transition safely from hospital to home following acute stroke. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Aweid serves as Medical Director for the Physician Associate MSc programme at Brunel University and contributes to collaborative initiatives across his associated organisations.

Dr Aweid is actively involved in medical education and professional development, serving as an examiner for national exams at the Faculty of Physician Associates and teaching medical students and junior doctors. He speaks English and Arabic, and is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that improves outcomes for older adults and patients with stroke-related conditions.
