Mr Ben Eddy is one of the UK's most experienced robotic prostate surgeons, specialising in surgery for prostate cancer. With over 1,400 robotic radical prostatectomies to his name, Mr Eddy is a leading figure in his field. He completed an international robotic fellowship in Australia in 2008 and subsequently established Kent’s first robotic surgery programme. As a national trainer in robotic surgery, he has trained numerous UK consultants and has set up his own fellowship programme. Mr Eddy has presented and published extensively on his outcomes in robotic surgery.
In addition to his surgical expertise, Mr Eddy has significant experience in prostate diagnostics, PSA testing, MRI imaging, and targeted prostate biopsies. He collaborates closely with oncology colleagues and specialist nursing staff through a multi-disciplinary team approach. Mr Eddy also provides consultations for a range of other urological conditions.
Mr Eddy qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School, London, in 1996. He trained as a junior doctor and later as a Specialist Registrar in leading hospitals around the London region. In 2008, he embarked on an international robotic surgical fellowship in Australia, where he trained extensively in robotic surgery for prostate cancer and laparoscopic surgery for renal cancer. He has developed a specialist interest in uro-oncology, focusing on minimally invasive techniques.
Mr Eddy has taken on cancer lead roles for the East Kent Hospitals and serves as the Prostate Cancer Lead for the Kent and Medway Cancer Network. He also has extensive training in benign urological procedures.
Throughout his career, Mr Eddy has presented extensively and won numerous awards, including the prestigious John Anderson Award from the British Association of Urological Surgeons in 2017 for his work. He is also heavily involved in urological charity work, particularly with the Urology Foundation, having raised over £400,000 for the charity.
Mr Eddy's dedication to his field and his patients is evident in his extensive training, numerous accolades, and commitment to advancing urological care through both clinical practice and charitable efforts.
