Dr Bipasha Chakrabarty is a Consultant Histopathologist and the current Head of Histopathology at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. She has been serving in this role since 2004, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the department. Dr Chakrabarty's primary responsibilities include reporting in-house biopsies and surgical resection specimens, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal pathology. She also undertakes pathology reviews and provides expert opinions on referred cases.
Dr Chakrabarty is the pathology lead for The Christie's Gastrointestinal Disease Group, where she specialises in peritoneal surface tumours of colorectal and appendiceal origin, as well as pseudomyxoma. Additionally, she serves as the pathology lead for the regional GI Neuroendocrine Tumour Service, which is certified by the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society as a Centre of Excellence. She is also the network pathology lead for anal cancers.
Dr Chakrabarty obtained her medical degree in 1993 and her postgraduate degree in 1996 from India. She completed her specialist training in Histopathology at the North West Deanery in the UK and earned her specialist qualifications (FRCPath, Histopathology) from the Royal College of Pathologists, London, in 2002. She was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2004, marking the beginning of her career as a consultant.
Her areas of expertise include gastrointestinal tract pathology, peritoneal surface tumours, appendiceal tumours, anal cancers, and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP NETs). Dr Chakrabarty is highly skilled in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the anal, appendix, bowel, carcinoid, colorectal, endocrine, neuroendocrine, and pseudomyxoma.
