About Dr Caroline Butler
Please feel free to book your first consultation with confidence via my booking page.
Dr Caroline Butler is a GP with a specialist interest in female metabolic health. With over 20 years of NHS experience, she has expanded her training as a Lifestyle Medicine Physician, Transformational Health and Nutrition Coach to provide personalised support that helps women not only understand what works for their bodies - but actually implement lasting change.
After personally experiencing a profound metabolic transformation at 40, Dr Butler now helps other women achieve similar results through evidence-based, practical and compassionate care.
Her approach focuses on the three major challenges to midlife metabolic health: insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and hormone imbalance. Her clients commonly experience improvements in energy, mental clarity, mood stability, and sustainable weight loss, while also reducing their risk of chronic conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, Hypertension, Stroke, Obesity, Dementia, and certain Cancers. She has extensive experience supporting the reversal and improvement of Type 2 Diabetes, Prediabetes and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).
By blending her conventional medical background with a lifestyle-first, coaching-led approach, Dr Butler supports clients through behavioural change, advanced health monitoring, and data-driven strategies. Her work is especially beneficial for those who have struggled to see results through previous health interventions, have complex medical needs or are using HRT or weight loss medications and want to optimise their outcomes during perimenopause and beyond.
Through her 1:1 metabolic health reviews, clients receive comprehensive blood panel analysis, biometric evaluations, medication reviews, and nutrition planning. Bespoke support is available through her signature 12-week Elevate Programme, which includes personalised coaching, tailored goal setting and ongoing accountability.
Dr Butler is committed to helping women achieve long-lasting transformations grounded in evidence-based medicine, disease prevention and holistic wellbeing.
In-person consultations are available now at The Regency Practice, Cheltenham, UK. Virtual consultations will launch in Autumn 2025.

Frequently asked questions
Why do you do what you do?
I originally trained as a physician and academic haematology registrar in Oxford, but I found I missed the deeper patient connection that general practice offers. I chose to retrain as a GP to build continuity with patients and support them more holistically. Over time, I became increasingly frustrated with the NHS’s limitations around preventative healthcare and lifestyle support. This led me to establish a private practice where I could offer more comprehensive, patient-centred care—especially in the areas of metabolic health and women's health during perimenopause.
What are the common symptoms that your patients tend to present with?
Many of my patients are perimenopausal women struggling with unexplained weight gain, particularly around the abdomen, fatigue, carb cravings, and a general sense of low energy. Often, they’ve tried multiple diets without success and are looking for a tailored, evidence-based solution. These symptoms may be early indicators of insulin resistance or metabolic dysfunction—even when formal diagnoses haven’t yet been made.
What are the treatments that you're able to offer your patients?
I provide a detailed metabolic health review that includes medical history, lifestyle analysis, food diary assessment, and advanced blood testing—including HBA1C, fasting insulin, apolipoprotein B, and liver function tests. My approach integrates diet, exercise, stress management, and sleep strategies to co-create an individualised health plan. The aim is to reduce risk factors and support sustainable lifestyle changes that improve long-term health outcomes.
What are your areas of sub-specialist interest?
My core focus is lifestyle medicine, with a particular emphasis on metabolic health and women’s health during perimenopause. I specialise in supporting patients with insulin resistance, prediabetes, and related conditions such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, PCOS, and cardiovascular risk. I’m passionate about helping women navigate this pivotal stage of life with clarity and confidence, using lifestyle interventions that address both current symptoms and future disease prevention.
