Professor Charles Claoué is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Queen's Hospital, part of the BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust in London, and also maintains an independent practice. He trained at the University of Cambridge, St. Thomas' Hospital, and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Professor Claoué holds academic affiliations with the Universities of London, Pretoria, Ulster, and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Professor Claoué is renowned for his pioneering work in ophthalmology, being the first surgeon to describe PRELEX (PREsbyopic Lens EXchange). He is currently developing an intraocular lens (IOL) to assist patients with end-stage age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).

In his professional roles, Professor Claoué has served as Secretary of the UKISCRS and was formerly Chairman of the UKISCRS EUREQUO committee. He has also held the position of Secretary of the British Society for Refractive Surgery. Additionally, he is a Liveryman of the Society of Apothecaries and a Freeman of The City of London.

Professor Claoué has an extensive publication record, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters to his name. He has also edited an early textbook on refractive surgery.

His areas of expertise include complex cataract surgery, intraocular lens design, corneal transplantation and treatments (including DMEK and collagen cross-linking/C3R), corneal and lens refractive surgery (including PRELEX), and medico-legal aspects of ophthalmology. He is also sought after for providing second opinions.

Professor Claoué treats a wide range of conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, external eye disease, conjunctivochalasis, dry eye, corneal disease, keratoconus, keratoplasty, corneal grafts, lid disease, blepharitis, and squint.

Professor Claoué continues to contribute significantly to the field of ophthalmology through both his clinical practice and academic work.
