    About Mr Christopher Paul Young

    GMC number: 2631992

    Year qualified: 1980

Place of primary qualification: University of Sheffield

Mr Christopher Young is a highly esteemed cardiovascular surgeon with an impressive record of nearly 10,000 heart operations. Recently, he transitioned from his role as a consultant at St Thomas’ Hospital to focus on the private sector. Currently, he serves as the senior lead for Cardiovascular Services across HCA Healthcare UK, with his clinical work primarily based at London Bridge Hospital.

Mr Young has a particular specialist interest in the aortic valve, aortic aneurysms, and coronary bypass surgery. He offers a range of advanced procedures, including:

    - Keyhole bypass surgery (MIDCAB)
    - Keyhole aortic and mitral valve surgery
    - Keyhole aortic aneurysm surgery
    - Keyhole heart rhythm surgery (in selected cases)

With 24 years of experience in keyhole heart surgery, Mr Young is a pioneer in this field. Last year, he performed all his valve operations using keyhole techniques and applied this approach in over 80% of aneurysm cases. This is significantly higher than the UK average, where only 13.8% of aortic valve surgeries were performed using keyhole methods.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Young is an international trainer in keyhole surgical techniques, having trained over 400 clinicians in the past decade. He regularly lectures at international conferences, conducts live surgical training sessions, and mentors younger surgeons to help them gain competence and confidence in keyhole surgery.

Mr Young is passionate about the benefits of keyhole surgery, stating, “I am excited to be doing this type of surgery. We can do so much through keyhole incisions. The reduced surgical impact of this approach is huge for the patients, with them bouncing back to health so much more quickly.”

Mr Christopher Young's dedication to advancing cardiovascular surgery and his commitment to patient care make him a leading figure in his field.
