Prof. David Reid is an internationally renowned consultant rheumatologist who specialises in osteoporosis. He qualified in medicine in 1975 from the University of Aberdeen, where he eventually became Professor of Rheumatology and Head of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Since retiring in 2015, he has held the title of Emeritus Professor.
For over 25 years, Prof. Reid has been associated with the National Osteoporosis Society, now known as the Royal Osteoporosis Society. He has held numerous honorary positions on the Board of Trustees, including a four-year term as Chair of the Board. His association with the charity continues as he now serves as Senior Medical Adviser and Fundraising Ambassador to their Bone Research Academy.
Prof. Reid has been extensively involved in osteoporosis and DEXA scanning research, authoring over 400 peer-reviewed papers and reviews. His research has primarily focused on bone density measurement and exploring new treatments for osteoporosis. He is a leader in the clinical use of Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and the latest approved therapies for osteoporosis, including Evenity, which became available in March 2020.
He currently consults privately at the Harley Street Clinic and London Bridge Hospital at the Shard.
