Year qualified: 2004

Place of primary qualification: University of Birmingham

Dr David Woolf is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in planning and delivering cutting-edge radiotherapy to patients with breast and lung cancer, as well as those with cancers that have spread to other parts of the body (oligometastasis).

Dr Woolf has extensive experience in the use of Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT) and is the lead at The Christie for this technique. With training in the USA, he is accredited in the use of proton beam radiotherapy and also delivers radiotherapy on the MR Linac.

In addition to his radiotherapy expertise, Dr Woolf treats patients with drug therapies including chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, and other targeted drug therapies such as immunotherapy. This combination of expertise allows him to work alongside experts from the wider multidisciplinary team, including leading surgeons, physicians, and radiologists, to produce comprehensive treatment plans for patients.

Patient feedback highlights Dr Woolf’s personable, honest, and prompt approach to their care.

Dr Woolf undertook his Clinical Oncology training in London at University College Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He holds a Master’s Degree in Oncology from the Institute of Cancer Research and obtained a Doctorate of Medicine after research at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Dr Woolf is actively involved in and leads international research, including the award of a prestigious multi-million-pound National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) grant to study lung radiotherapy. He also leads global research collaborations and has authored over 40 research publications and over 70 national and international presentations. Additionally, he is involved in the professional training of Clinical Oncologists nationally through the Royal College of Radiologists.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr Woolf enjoys spending time with his young family, exercising regularly, and reading widely.
