Mr Economides is a highly experienced consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with a specialist interest in the field of ultrasound. He trained as an undergraduate at Charing Cross Medical School, qualifying in 1980. He went on to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology at renowned centres such as St Bartholomew’s and King’s College Hospitals in London, and later at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Following this, he trained in fetal medicine at the Harris Birthright Centre in London and Oxford. Fetal medicine involves the assessment of growth and wellbeing, the maintenance of health, and the diagnosis of illnesses and abnormalities in an unborn baby using technology such as ultrasound.
Mr Economides is internationally and nationally recognised for his expertise in obstetric ultrasound, particularly in early pregnancy anomalies. His other research interests include 4D ultrasound, miscarriage, fetal wellbeing, high-risk pregnancies including multiple births, and inherited bleeding disorders in women. He is a founding member of the British Gynaecological Imaging Society and a member of the British Maternal Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS).
