About Mr D'Jon Lopez

GMC number: 6163962

Year qualified: 2007

Place of primary qualification: University of London

Mr Lopez is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in conditions affecting the hip and knee. A significant portion of his practice focuses on primary (first-time) and revision (re-do) joint replacement surgery for both hip and knee joints. He has a strong clinical interest in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of painful, infected, and failing joint replacements.

Mr Lopez obtained his undergraduate medical qualifications in 2007 from Imperial College, London. He completed his early postgraduate training in London on the South-East Thames training programme, where he gained membership to the Royal College of Surgeons (England). His higher surgical training was undertaken on the Cambridge orthopaedic rotation, and he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma & Orthopaedics) in 2016.

Following his specialist training, Mr Lopez pursued further extensive sub-specialty fellowship training in the UK, Germany, and Australia. His fellowship training encompassed all aspects of primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, peri-prosthetic joint infection (infection following joint replacement), as well as orthopaedic oncology and sarcoma surgery (tumour surgery).

Mr Lopez maintains a busy primary and revision joint replacement practice and regularly performs complex reconstructive surgeries, such as proximal and distal femoral replacements, for patients with metastatic bone tumour disease.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Lopez is a faculty member for several FRCS (Consultant level examination) courses for senior surgical trainees. He is also a faculty member for the AO Trauma Foundation, which trains orthopaedic surgeons in basic and advanced trauma surgery techniques. Mr Lopez has several peer-reviewed publications and has contributed book chapters to orthopaedic textbooks, primarily on the topics of revision surgery and peri-prosthetic joint infection, areas in which he is particularly passionate. Furthermore, he is a regular reviewer for the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Bone and Joint Journal (BJJ).

Mr Lopez's dedication to his field and his extensive training make him a highly respected specialist in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the areas of hip and knee joint replacements.
