Mr Donald Whitaker is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon based at King's College Hospital, London. He also sees patients privately, including at The London Bridge Hospital. Mr Whitaker specialises in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, with particular interests in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), internal rib fixation, and the Ravitch repair of pectus excavatum.
Mr Whitaker trained on the South East London programme, which included King's College and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. He further honed his skills with a year of fellowship training in Halifax, Canada. In 2006, he attained an MD from the University of Edinburgh for his research into neuropsychological outcomes after bypass surgery. He has received the Certificate of Completion of Training and is listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Mr Whitaker is an active member of The Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, The European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
His areas of expertise include thoracic surgery, thoracoscopy or VATS, rib fixation, heart bypass surgery, coronary artery surgery, and the Ravitch repair. He is also experienced in treating cardiothoracic trauma.
