Dr Doraid Alrifai is an experienced medical oncology physician specialising in thoracic (lung, mesothelioma, thymoma) and urological (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, and penile) malignancies. He is based at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom.

Dr Alrifai graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2007. He has trained at some of the most prestigious academic institutions in London, including University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. With extensive experience in both early and late phase clinical trials, he serves as a principal and sub-investigator on numerous oncology studies. Dr Alrifai holds an MSc from the Institute of Cancer Research and a PhD focusing on thoracic malignancies from University College London. His research has been published in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, and he has contributed to chapters in oncology-based textbooks.

Dr Alrifai has received national and international recognition for his work in medical oncology, winning several prestigious prizes. He is actively involved in teaching, frequently chairing and speaking at regional and international educational and charity events. At St George’s, he leads the junior clinical faculty and plays a significant role in the recruitment and mentorship of new doctors in the oncology department. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for highly regarded national and international journals.

In addition to his full-time role as a cancer-treating physician, Dr Alrifai has been instrumental in the operation of the COVID Medicine Delivery Unit (CMDU) at St George’s Hospital. His comprehensive understanding of general medicine has enabled him to effectively contribute to this department alongside his ongoing cancer work.

Dr Alrifai is fluent in English and also proficient in Arabic, allowing him to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population.
