Mr Whitwell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford. Mr Whitwell is also a lead consultant in the Oxford Bone and Soft Tissue Service where he specialises in treatment and reconstruction for patients with bone and soft tissue cancer.

He graduated from Nottingham University and trained in Bristol, Oxford and Brisbane before taking up his consultant appointment in Oxford. He specialises in the surgical treatment of hip and knee problems including revision surgery. He also undertakes NHS clinics in Bristol, Abingdon and Newbury.
