    About Mr Ellis Downes

    GMC number: 3315176

    Year qualified: 1989

Place of primary qualification: University of Leicester

Mr Ellis Downes is a highly accomplished Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based in the UK, with over 20 years of experience. He received his medical degree from the University of Leicester in 1989 and has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist since 1999. Before moving to private practice full-time, Mr Downes dedicated 11 years of service as a Consultant to the NHS. He has a particular interest in endoscopic (keyhole) surgery, endometrial ablation, and treating patients with urinary incontinence.

Mr Downes believes that no two patients are the same and that each should be treated as an individual. He cares for his patients meticulously and with utmost compassion. He sees a broad range of patients, including those suffering from heavy and/or irregular periods, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain, menopausal symptoms, and urinary incontinence. He also provides general gynaecological reviews, including cervical smear tests, contraceptive and fertility consultations. In addition, he offers comprehensive pregnancy care packages from conception to delivery at The Portland Hospital.

Mr Downes has built a great reputation amongst patients, general practitioners, and other colleagues within the healthcare profession. Indeed, he was featured in the 2013 edition of Tatler's Top 250 Doctors Guide. Owing to this, patients are often willing to travel from afar to be treated by him.

Mr Downes also has a passion for medical education and research. He is a member of several societies, including The British Society of Gynecological Endoscopy, The International Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy, and the International Continence Society.

Outside of his practice, Mr Downes enjoys time with his wife, Louise, and their two children, George and Lily. You can often find him on the golf course or enjoying a day out on the water.
