Dr Emma Drasar is a Consultant Haematologist at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and the Whittington NHS Trust. She graduated from the Royal London School of Medicine in 2001 and earned her MRCP in 2006. Dr Drasar completed her specialist Haematology training at King's College Hospital, receiving her FRCPath in 2015. She is a member of the British Society of Haematology and the UK Haemoglobinopathy Forum.

From 2009 to 2013, Dr Drasar served as a Clinical Lecturer in Sickle Cell Disease at King's College Hospital, where she was awarded a PhD for her research on markers of severity and predictors of organ dysfunction in sickle cell disease. In 2013, she received the Early Stage Investigator prize from the British Society of Haematology.

Dr Drasar is the Principal Investigator for the BELIEVE trial, which uses luspatacept to improve anaemia in thalassaemia, and a Sub-Investigator on a La Jolla trial exploring alternative approaches to iron chelation. She has published 20 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London.

She leads the Thalassaemia Peer Review process in the UK, assessing specialist centres for compliance with national standards of care for haemoglobinopathy patients. Dr Drasar is also the Network Lead for the North Central London Red Cell Network, where she organises educational days, standardises clinical guidelines, and manages a weekly network MDT for elective queries. She played a key role in establishing an automated apheresis service and a transient elastography service at the Whittington.

Dr Drasar is passionate about training in red cell and iron disorders management. She co-created the Red Cell Roadshow for Haematology trainees, which has been highly successful. She is frequently invited to speak at Thalassaemia Society events and Red Cells R Us patient support meetings.
