About Mr Eric Clarke

HCPC number: PH59489

Mr Eric Clarke is an Australian-trained sports physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience. He completed his undergraduate physiotherapy training at the University of Sydney in 1999 and attained a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University in 2006. His special interest area is lower limb injuries to the hip, knee, and ankle, including post-operative rehabilitation.

Mr Clarke has a wealth of experience with elite sport at international levels. He has worked with elite Australian, British, and multinational athletes across a variety of sports including sailing, premiership rugby, triathlon, basketball, athletics, rowing, cycling, boxing, and martial arts. He is a Gold Level Member of the ACPSEM and in Australia is a titled APA Sports Physiotherapist, an accreditation which recognises his high level of sports-specific experience and expertise.

In recent years, Mr Clarke has worked particularly with elite netball as the Lead Physiotherapist for Saracens Mavericks in the VNSL. He also works with several international professional squash athletes and a wide variety of other sportspeople in gymnastics, running, tennis, and swimming. He has extensive experience of working with elite sailing teams including being team physiotherapist for the Swedish entrant, Artemis Racing, in the 34th Americas Cup, and with the Australian Olympic Team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics who won 2 gold medals and one silver.

He practices with an evidence-based approach; using hands-on techniques (including mobilisation and manipulation, massage, and acupuncture when appropriate) and exercise prescription. His diagnostic skills and understanding of biomechanics and the way the body works as a whole underline a philosophy of addressing the cause as a priority.

Mr Clarke lives in Hertfordshire with his English wife and their two young children. When not busy with work and family, he likes to cycle and swim. Old rugby injuries prevent him from running these days, but he has proudly completed three marathons in the past with a personal best of 3 hours 17 minutes.
