Mr Feiran Wu is a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hand, wrist and upper-limb surgery. He joined University Hospitals Birmingham in 2019 as a consultant in orthopaedics and trauma, and also practices privately in leading specialist clinics across Birmingham and the West Midlands. He trained in medicine at the University of Cambridge and completed orthopaedic training in the UK, before receiving a British Orthopaedic Association Overseas Fellowship in 2018 to enhance his expertise in wrist arthroscopy and hand injury surgery.
He treats degenerative, traumatic and sports-related disorders of the upper limb, including conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s contracture, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and arthritis of the hand, wrist and thumb. His procedural repertoire includes arthroscopic (keyhole) wrist surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, tendon repair, joint replacement and joint fusion in the hand, ganglion cyst removal, ulnar nerve release, and custom 3D-printed implant reconstruction for complex wrist deformities.
In his clinical and academic roles, he leads and contributes to research projects on fracture fixation and upper-limb surgery, publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals, and presents at national and international conferences. He serves on editorial boards and engages in teaching and mentoring of surgeons, therapists and trainees. Outside his medical work, he is interested in musical performance (he plays cello and guitar), rock climbing and table tennis — pursuits that deepen his understanding of the physical demands on hands and upper limbs.
