    Dr Gerald Coakley is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, part of the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, where he has been serving since 2000. He specialises in rheumatoid and inflammatory arthritis and has extensive experience in managing musculoskeletal pain disorders, including fibromyalgia. Since 2007, Dr Coakley has been running an interdisciplinary service for chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis at Keats House, London Bridge.

    Dr Coakley graduated from the Royal London Hospital Medical School in 1989. He completed his postgraduate training in Nottingham and London, followed by an Arthritis Research Campaign Fellowship. His research into rheumatoid arthritis and Felty's syndrome at Guy's Hospital culminated in a PhD in 2000.

    From 2003 to 2013, Dr Coakley served as the Director of Medical Education, and from 2013 to 2018, he was the Clinical Director for Dermatology, Neurology, and Rheumatology at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust. He is currently a Trustee and the National Chair of the Education and Training Committee for the British Society for Rheumatology.

    Dr Coakley has published numerous papers on Felty's syndrome and septic arthritis. His areas of expertise include joint injection, rheumatology, medical reporting, soft tissue injection, medicolegal matters, and video consultations. He is proficient in treating a wide range of conditions, including chronic fatigue syndrome, post-COVID fatigue, arthritis, knee pain, osteoarthritis, shoulder pain, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), vasculitis, back pain, gout, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Sjögren's syndrome, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, inflammatory arthritis, joint pain, neck pain, reactive arthritis, scleroderma, and septic arthritis.
