About Prof. Gerard John Byrne
Professor Byrne has been an established Oncoplastic and Aesthetic Breast Specialist at Spire Manchester Hospital for over 10 years. Having performed several thousand breast cancer and breast reconstruction operations, over two thousand breast augmentations and breast reductions, and many hundreds of other symptomatic and cosmetic breast procedures he is one of the most experienced and respected Breast Surgeons in the North of England.
Professor Byrne passionately believes that patients have the right to understand fully all treatment options available to them so that they can make fully informed decisions about their treatment and understand any risks and how to avoid them.
Professor Byrne says “High quality surgical treatment in such a psychologically and physically sensitive area requires a team approach where the patient becomes part of the team so that she obtains the best outcome possible”. With this in mind, Professor Byrne has a team of breast care nursing and outpatient staff who are specifically focused on making sure that his patients have the most compassionate and highest quality care available.
Professor Byrne has a particular interest in surgical training and medical education and is the Founder Director of The Academy at University Hospital South Manchester and Dean & Director of Education & Quality at Health Education England (North). Professor Byrne has a deep commitment to low income countries and spends some time each year in sub-Saharan Africa and South West Asia assisting the improvement of healthcare systems.
