Prof. Gianluca Rompianesi is a Consultant Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, Transplant and Robotic Surgeon with over 15 years of international experience in liver, pancreas and biliary surgery. He practises at HCA Healthcare UK at The Wellington Hospital and specialises in the management of complex hepatobiliary conditions, including liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, biliary disease and advanced surgical oncology.
Prof. Rompianesi has completed advanced clinical fellowships at leading centres including the Royal Free Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He holds dual fellowships from the European Board of Surgery in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and transplantation, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
His clinical expertise includes robotic hepatobiliary surgery, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and living donor kidney transplantation. He performs a wide range of procedures including liver resection, pancreatic surgery, gallbladder surgery, bile duct surgery and transplant surgery, with a focus on complex and high-risk cases.
He treats conditions such as liver tumours, pancreatic disorders, gallstones, biliary strictures, neuroendocrine tumours and metastatic liver disease, providing comprehensive, patient-centred care.
Alongside his clinical practice, Prof. Rompianesi is actively involved in research and academic surgery, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications and international recognition for surgical innovation. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery and leads the Living Donor Transplantation Programme at Federico II University Hospital in Naples.
